Finding Strength To Carry On…

Life has a way of testing us in moments we least expect. Recently, I faced the sudden and heartbreaking loss of my stepdad. The grief was heavy, and the days that followed felt almost impossible to navigate.

Yet, not long after, I was scheduled to travel to Sydney to speak at a conference on inclusion. Standing on that stage, carrying both my sorrow and my message, was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. But I knew it mattered. Sharing my voice, even through pain, was a way to honour not only my stepdad’s memory but also the values of kindness and acceptance that guide me.

Carrying on doesn’t mean ignoring the hurt—it means choosing to keep moving forward with it. And in doing so, I was humbled to later be nominated for Young Advocate of the Year in my town. That recognition reminded me that strength isn’t about being unshaken; it’s about showing up, even when the weight feels unbearable.

Grief and resilience often walk hand in hand. My journey has taught me that while loss changes us, it can also deepen our purpose. Carrying on is never easy, but it is always worth it.
