Lets turn the page together…
Greetings Friend! I’m Jake!—Welcome to My Blog!
I’m so glad you’re here. This blog is a space where I’ll be sharing stories, reflections, and moments from my journey as an author, motivational speaker, and passionate advocate for disability awareness. Whether you’re here to learn, connect, or just read something uplifting, I hope this feels like a cozy corner of the internet where you’re always welcome.
So, who am I?
Well, my journey started with a challenge. I had a stroke when I was just six months old. Doctors weren’t sure what my future would hold—but I’ve spent every day since proving that the future is mine to shape. I didn’t walk until I was six years old, but I found my stride early in other ways. At just two, I discovered books—and that was it. I was hooked. Stories became my world, and learning became my superpower.
School was a big part of my story. I was in the support unit throughout primary and high school, and I absolutely loved Book Week, library visits, and any chance to dive into a new adventure through reading. Being in the support unit gave me a strong sense of belonging, but it also opened my eyes to something important: there was a gap in the education system—a missing voice for students with disabilities.
In Grade 11, I decided to speak up. I made an appointment with my principal and walked out as the first-ever support unit captain in my town and surrounding area. That moment was huge. It wasn’t just about leadership—it was about representation, visibility, and making sure every student felt seen and heard.
Grade 12 was my time to shine. I worked hard to raise awareness about autism, disabilities, and—most importantly—our abilities. Because here’s the thing: I have autism, but it doesn’t define me. It empowers me. It gives me a unique perspective, a deep sense of empathy, and a voice I’m proud to use.
In 2023, I took that voice and turned it into my first book: Cracked as a Crab. It’s a story close to my heart, featuring a crab named Chip who has autism and struggles to make friends. But Chip discovers his unique gift—making people laugh with his jokes—and uses it to connect with others and build friendships. Writing that book was a dream come true, and it’s just the beginning.
Now, I’m stepping into new journeys—writing, speaking, advocating—and I’m bringing you along with me. This blog is where I’ll share the highs, the challenges, the lessons, and the laughter. It’s a space for truth, growth, and celebration.
Thanks for being here. Let’s turn the page together
